    Tax-exempt groups must file with IRS by Oct. 15
    Small, tax-exempt organizations that have not filed an annual return with the IRS for the past three years are at risk of losing their status if they don't file before Oct. 15.

    Local non-profits could lose tax exempt status
    Nearly 40 small Washington Parish non-profit organizations are among the hundreds of thousands across the country at risk of losing their tax-exempt status because they failed to file required returns for 2007, 2008 and 2009. Now the IRS is offering those with filing due dates between May 17 and Oct. 15 a chance to preserve their status if they file returns by Oct. 15.
